"A complete home cinema multichannel set for 1,799 Euro consisting of a preamplifier that goes by the name DecoderStation7, elegant Cubycon 2 satellites, and a subwoofer. The active subwoofer takes on the roll of amplifier as all relevant amplifiers for the system are integrated into the subwoofer. [...] Teufel promises an especially easy installation. With little effort, the precisely aligned components work together hamoniously. [T]he DecoderStation 7 [offers] 3 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output. This is good for such a small device (just 27 cm wide, 17 cm deep, and 6.5 cm tall with a weight of about 2 kg), but little compared to high-end A/V receivers.
The HDMI terminals are of course compatible with the 1.4a standard for 3-D. Decoders for current HD audio formats are also included with Teufel’s DecoderStation 7. Decoders for Dolby Prologic 2 and DTS NEO:6 are also included. A radio tuner for FM, AM, MW and UKW is integrated. [...] The look and feel of the DecoderStation 7 are plus points. The enclosure seems to be solidly constructed and all connections are firmly positioned on the back. The look is pleasant and timeless. In addition to the HDMI connections already mentioned, there are two coaxial digital inputs, an optical digital input, two analogue cinch stereo inputs, two 3.5 mm mini stereo inputs and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The connection to the amplifier in the subwoofer is made via a 5.1 cinch output. The connections offered are complemented by a RC preout cinch stereo form. Naturally, there are also connections for various radio tuners.”
"Let’s talk about the active subwoofer that goes by the name US5305/6SW. A class D digital amplifier with a total of 350 watts is integrated. [...] Corresponding cinch inputs on the subwoofer receive the analogue audio signals from the DecoderStation 7. All of the Cubycon satellites that come as part of the set connect to the subwoofer by means of screw terminals. The 3 woofers, each with a 130 mm diameter, built into the front of the subwoofer have an impressive look. The membranes are made from polypropylene.
The subwoofer operates according to Air Stream bass reflex technology. Many subwoofers use a bass reflex construction, yet at high levels, the bass reflex openings can cause unlovely wind noise. The Air Stream Bass Technology’s precisely calculated bass reflex opening and special sound guidance virtually eliminates this. Even at considerable volumes, there is no wind noise to be heard. The low standy power consumption of just 0.5 watts is commendable in a subwoofer. When in use, the maximum power capacity is 350 watts, with each satellite appropriating 40 watts to itself and the subwoofer channel a mighty 150 watts.
It’s commendable that the satellites have enclosures made from real aluminium. Due to the way they are lacquered, however, the degree to which this material is employed is not at all apparent. Only by touching the speakers does it become apparent that they are are made from cool, high-end aluminium. [...] The premium screw terminals that can also be used with banana plugs met with our full approval. The subwoofer is made from MDF and has rounded corners which increases the overall high-end look. Its slender construction looks good together with the satellites. The inner workings of the bass speaker are very minimal – digital amplification techniques require very little space. The entire ensemble offers no grounds for criticism.”Conclusion
"The acoustics of Teufel’s Central AV Cubycon 2 set are a true highlight: Spatially well proportioned, tonally authentic and pleasant as well as dynamic. It would be difficult to find another complete system that sounds as good. The level stability should also be absolutely sufficient for most uses. The elegant look and low space requirements also recommend Teufel’s all-in-one offer. [...] All-in-all, the Central A/V Cubycon 2 bundle is a visually very pleasant and an acoustically unusually strong compact system solution [...].“
